Live in the now

I recently read the book, The Power Of Now by Eckhart Tolle and it all just made perfect sense. So many of us live in our past or in our future, where we end up missing the most precious thing there is: the NOW.  I always believed time was the most precious thing there is. But if you are so focused on time running out, or what happened in the past, you miss what is right in front of you. So be present, live in the now. Don’t think about anything else besides what is happening right before your eyes.

“Time isn’t precious at all, because it is an illusion. What you perceive as precious is not time but the one point that is out of time: the Now. That is precious indeed. The more you are focused on time—past and future—the more you miss the Now, the most precious thing there is.” – Eckhart Tolle

Do less: Forget your to do list

This is always a tough one for me because I have a never ending to do list as a mom of two, a business owner and a homemaker. I feel like I am always on the go, go, go. But what has helped me do less is to simplify things and enjoy them. I still have to get the laundry done, cook, feed the chickens, clean the house, walk the dogs, take care of the kids, etc but I find joy in doing them and take it one step at a time. I also let my kids be a part of this and don’t get overwhelmed when something does not get done. I always tell myself, that raising my children is the most important role I will ever have. They always come first.

Do something you enjoy

Sometimes we get so lost in our everyday routine that we forget about ourselves. But take the time to do something you enjoy. Grab a book, make a warm cup of coffee, bake some sourdough bread, exercise, learn a new craft, whatever it may be, just make the time for it! It will fill up your cup and make you feel like you are ready to take on the day. Remember, you matter too!

Practice silence

I think many people struggle with this one. But I feel like I need this daily and I love sitting in silence. We live in a world where everyone is always thinking about the next thing they are going to do that it drives people crazy to feel bored. But boredom is amazing because it allows you to hear your thoughts, ideas, relax, and feel refreshed when you come out of that silence. Same things for our kids! I do not entertain my children. They entertain themselves. I let them be bored so their creativity and brains light a fire.

Eat slower

Enjoy every bite of your food. The more you chew, the better it breaks down. The more it breaks down, the better your digestion. Sit down at the table with your family or even by yourself, with no distractions and just eat slowly. Taste the food, feel the texture, flavors and savor every bite. Food is our fuel and we should enjoy it.

P.S. A rule I keep in my home is no phones at the table.
